Day 12: Resources

Forty kilometers to Paradise Valley Cafe and then to Idyllwild, which means that we’re getting close to the San Jacinto Wilderness Area. However, that number doesn't tell at all what hardships we'll have to endure. First and foremost, the usual and most critical issue: where can we replenish our water? The desert makes no concessions and forces you to think only about that. Today, I risked doing the last four and a half kilometers with only one liter, and it was a very hot day. I stopped to get water from a small stream – I regretted not taking a picture afterwards – and it was a nice injection of mental energy, although my legs were already broken.

If there's one thing this day has taught me, it's the ability to ration one's resources: material (water and food), physical, and mental.
